Archbishop Robert J. Carlson of St. Louis is calling on Roman Catholics to scale back involvement with the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A and to think twice before buying their cookies.

statement by Carlson on the archdiocese’s website explains that the church is distancing itself from the Girl Scouts because the national organization supports transgender rights, homosexuality and other stances that apparently go against Catholic values.

Archbishop Carlson objects to the Girl Scouts ties to Amnesty International, the Coalition for Adolescent Girls, Oxfam and other groups because of their support for sex education and reproductive rights, reports Christine Hauser.
